Third Pillar Solar (‘TPS’) is a US company dedicated to developing floating solar photovoltaic projects (‘FPV’) on otherwise unused water bodies such as reservoirs, wastewater plants, and quarries while preserving and maximizing the value of water resources.

TPS’ project pipeline consists of both distributed generation and utility scale projects. FPV projects enable clean energy generation in densely populated areas close to electricity demand where often limited land is available for ground mounted projects. FPV projects also reduce evaporation losses from water bodies such as drinking reservoirs, which is particularly beneficial in water stressed areas.

FPV is expected to play an increasingly prominent role in the energy transition in the coming decades as FPV tracker technology develops, contractors gain familiarity and experience building FPV projects, and solar PV module costs continue to fall.
